Les lettres muettes - The silent letters
The last letter of a word is often not pronounced.

1. The final -e is always silent:
    Sophie, Philippe, française, anglaise

2. The final -s is almost always silent:
   Paris, Nicolas, anglais

3. The -h is always silent:
    Hélène, un hôtel, l'herbe
